Different Types of Pipes – PVC Pipes, PEX Pipes, ABS Pipes

PVC Pipes

This means that they can be easily used for various construction applications. The only drawback is that they have limited impact resistance and tend to get brittle in cold temperatures. 

PVC Pipes Advantages

3. The cost is low as compared to other plumbing pipes.
4. It is also easily available in most hardware stores.
5. Less expensive material than copper pipes when converted to per foot basis.
6. It has very good durability.

PVC Pipes Disadvantages

PVC pipe is made from polyvinyl chloride, and while it’s generally quite sturdy and easy to install, it has a couple of disadvantages. In addition to manufacturing byproducts that can be potentially harmful to humans and animals alike, PVC pipes are not compatible with all types of fittings; only copper can be used for soldering in order to prevent cracking or weakening. Most pipe manufacturers recommend against using any other type of fitting in their pipes. 

PEX Pipes 

Cost-Effective Options : Although these pipes are a bit more expensive than ABS and PVC, they’re worth considering if you live in an area with soft water or if you want a pipe that will last for many years. The only downside to installing PEX is that it requires professional installation. 

PEX Pipes Advantages 

1. One of the big advantages that come with using PEX pipes is their cost-effectiveness.
2. Because they’re resistant to corrosion and rusting, they can last longer than other types of pipes; that means less regular maintenance and a lower probability of replacement.
3. Another advantage to using them is their flexibility – if you need to make an adjustment or change direction during installation, it’s relatively easy to bend your pipe as necessary.
4. The biggest advantage is its resistance to freezing.

PEX Pipes Disadvantages 

There are many disadvantages to using pex piping. 

The first disadvantage is its price compared to other materials. It’s possible to save money by installing pex piping instead of copper pipe. However, if you choose pex piping for aesthetic reasons and then switch houses after a few years, you’ll have trouble selling your home because most people prefer older-looking homes with classic features such as copper pipes. 

ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) Pipes

ABS pipes are a cross between polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polypropylene (PP). ABS is used in low pressure applications. They were first commercially produced by Carborundum Company in 1945. They are often referred to as white pipe because they are most commonly white, although they may also be found in a variety of other colors, such as red or blue. 

ABS Pipes Advantages 

• They are suitable for high-temperature and high-pressure applications.
• ABS pipe is commonly used in potable water, wastewater treatment systems.
• It can also be used for sewers. The pipelines designed for sewage or stormwater transport are often made from cast iron or ductile iron pipes (CID), but can be made from a variety of other materials such as steel and plastic (ABS).
• Often painted green with a non toxic epoxy coating on internal diameter.

ABS Pipes Disadvantages 

Abs pipes are hard to cut and need a special tool called saw. The material used in manufacturing these pipes is brittle and will break if you hit it against something or bend it too much. This makes them unsuitable for any rough handling or transportation from one place to another.

Another disadvantage associated with abs pipe is its high cost. Other than that, abs pipe has no other disadvantages as far as plumbing applications are concerned.
